Acres Mixtape Volume One

Special thanks to Ellen Epley for the photograph, I highly recommend visiting elleneply.com to see her other work. She captures the moment really well and her subjects never seem to force anything for the camera. I kept getting the sense that these photos snapped themselves, just by the way her collection sits naturally. I chose this particular photo b/c I felt it speaks to what we’re trying to do on Acres. The site is about people forming this community together. The feeling I get from the image is this acceptance to explore something new, to let your guard down and do something. The girl in the photo looks right at you, and for me it suggests purity, and the liberty to change course in life, even if it’s for a moment. There’s no doubt, that I tried to mimic the overall impression the weather had been leaving on me lately, with volume one. It’s not too hot or cold, its upbeat and chill at the same time. I think this mix has enough edge to keep you awake while also giving you the atmosphere to chill on the porch. Spring time is without a doubt one of my favorite times of the year.  I was really excited to add these groups to my collection this last month. They’re all really amazing musical acts that offer up something special. Don’t forget to Download the mix for free, and take it with you wherever you are, and wherever you go. Lastly, thanks to the Artists who have submitted their voices for the Acres, Discovering You tag line. Keep sending them in, I think they really sound nice in the mix.

Tea Leigh & Luke Reed “Rivers Of Love”

Our very own Tea Leigh has just released an early version of her new project with Luke Reed. While they haven’t decided on a name yet, the single has giant implications on the direction they’re planning to go. I’m hearing a brighter version of Beach House, and some lovely similarities to one of my favorite bands Dean & Britta. Comparisons aside, I think the music stands alone giving these two a great jump start to the project moving forward. Luke told me they have some other tunes almost ready. I guess we can all look forward to an album at some point. They’ll be starting a mini tour East to West in July, we’ll keep you posted on that. In the meantime, get out your favorite water shoes, and lets get ready to dream big. This is some lovely pop, the kind that make you wanna nestle in, and just chill, while it flows you down “Rivers Of Love.” Gosh that sounds cheesy, yes!

Luke Reed “Under The Sun”

This one’s for those highlight wavers, right before the night shifts into that “what’s next” moment. Its been awhile since I found myself slugging through the crowds of glow face hipsters, and non attentive koolios. This cut is for those other kids, the one’s who hit the park after dark, and enjoy the chill of their immediate collective. You know the memories where you’re laying on the hill, moon is beaming over you, and the crew. Its early everywhere else, but you lay still, grounded in the lateness of life. Luke Reed is without a doubt similar to Neon Indian, Washed Out, etc. But I mentioned this, now we can establish Luke as his own thing, and with his only single on Soundcloud, he’s done just that. It’s just before midnight, yet I feel like I’m “Under The Sun (true love).” Pass the whirls y’all.
