I’m trying to get away from being a “reviewer” of albums or art in general. This sites not really about that anymore, rather a place to share special things out there in the massive swirl oniine. So with that said, have an adventure with the new works from Stuart Thomas.
Washington, DC is home to Is and of The, an experimental electronic music project which incorporates sampling, with live instrumentation. It’s an impressive outing, one that puts the search to build something spectacularly explorative over all else. A beautifully designed bandcamp page exudes thoughts that would require you to search yourself. Lovely painted pieces that fit without gaps to this risky, and refreshing music. Its more or less great IDM that incorporates some true blue sounding organic instruments. I love the anarchist approach on some of these numbers. All of a sudden you’re at this place, then within seconds the transition is skipped and you’ve given birth to a new aesthetic, one that has you burnt from the scary yet dazzling adventure. The brand new 7 track EP, latepril was just released via bandcamp, nab it for a FREE DL, and explore the other great releases. Album artwork by Anissa Najm.
LA is the home of White Blush, aka Carol Rhyu whose album is out now on bandcamp. This track “Mirror” really caught my attention. A fluttery IDM bend, with enough similar Lali Puna roll to make me reflect on a certain period. There’s also a dark element to this record, which I guess we’re suppose to call “Darkwave” at this particular point in our genre timeline. Her vocals are very well placed in Pop, but the musical edge makes everything breathe a fresh sense of artful noise.
2012 was an interesting year for Holly and me. We learned we’d become parents, due date late January 2013. Our son’s name is Cove, he now is the proud owner of years of collecting music, and a few choice instruments. My first album came out under Nomadic Firs, which had so many weird, and exciting moments. With those two big items I give you this random list, which is a collection of Artists I heard getting played over and over again in our house. These are some of the folks that took me out of my own creations, and allowed me to just be a fan of music again. Something I honestly misplaced, and the reason I do this site. So cheers to all of you for making this last year fun for us, we appreciate it.
Papernoise (Hannes Pasqualini) out of Italy, turns the synthetic glitchy sounds into an avalanche of explorative nature. On The Shadow of the Mountains, Hannes really gets explicit in the journey aspect. There’s a cave dweller who just opened a new portal, and the bright implications beaming loud find a way to make bliss from eager sounding robotics.
Along with these uniquely original sounds, Hannes is an Illustrator, and comic artist, you can discover his magical world here.
The comic is called Giètz!, which is a graphic novel about the beginnings of Italian jazz music during the 50s.
Hannes Pasqualini was born in Bolzano, where he currently lives and works. He studied film at Zelig in Bolzano and at the Universität der Künste in Berlin. Later he graduated in design at the Free University of Bolzano. Currently he works part-time as a web and media designer for the agency helios.bz; the rest of the time he works as a freelance illustrator, writes and illustrates short comics and graphic novels.
